Compliance With Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) Policy

The Bridgeport Public Library asserts that no qualified individual with a disability shall, by reason of such disability, be excluded from participation in, or be denied the benefits of, the services, programs, and materials of the library, or be subjected to discrimination by the library.

The library has taken steps to assure that the library's programs are accessible to all library patrons, including qualified individuals with disabilities. If you or the person you are accompanying has a disability and will require assistance, please notify a library staff member.

Affected patrons   may be disabled in the following ways:

  •  Visually impaired
  • Manually impaired
  • Audibly impaired
  • Verbally impaired
  • Mobility impaired
  • Mentally impaired

The library will make every effort to provide assistance to qualified individuals with disabilities upon  request.

  • For the visually impaired, the library will reserve front-row seating if requested in advance.
  • For the audibly impaired, the library will provide an interpreter for programs if a qualified individual requests one 14 days in advance of the activity.
  • For the manually and mobility impaired, the library welcomes attendants to assist the disabled.
  • For the mentally impaired, the library provides slower-paced and shorter Library orientation and tours.
  • For the verbally impaired, the library assures that written as well as verbal questions are responded to   on an equal basis.

The library provides adequate space during activities for any attendants that a disabled person may need to help them enjoy the library programs and services.
